Websites

We specialise in offering businesses small, fast loading, useful Web Sites of around 8 pages, that they can edit themselves, for the realistic price of $750 (inc GST)

If you want a "gorgeous" Web Site using Flash animations, DHTML and suchlike we can provide it. However, these sites cost $1000's and we realise that they are off little interest to the average business in New Zealand. Moreover, these sites are often very specialised and can cost businesses $100's for even the smallest update.

Whilst we can make static HTML Web Sites (similar to this site) at $80 per page using Microsoft Frontpage or Macromedia Dreamweaver (or simply hand-coding), we firmly believe that most businesses and organisations are better served by using Open Source. Web Sites can be created using one or a combination of Content Management Systems (CMS), eCommerce solutions (shopping carts) and bulletin board systems. Using these solutions, we can create professional looking and useful Web Sites in under a week for around $750 (inc GST). 2 hours one-one (or small groups) training on how to best use the site is also included in this price.

If you don't have a domain name nor a host then our recommended quality hosting/domain package is only around $15 per month (with $25 USD free Google advertising). For small one or two page sites with small amounts of traffic then free hosting is possible.
.Com domain names (e.g. www.mybusiness.com and This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) are available for $20 per year.
.co.nz (e.g. www.mybusiness.co.nz and This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) for $50 per year.

Without advertising of some sort, even the best Web Site is of no use. All our sites are created with search engine optimization in mind but we would stress that an additional 2 hours of our time setting up either an inexpensive Google/Yahoo campaign and/or creating reciprocal links would be money well spent.

If you have an existing Web Site that requires upgrading then we can also assist you. We continuously evaluate different host for the best deal. This means we may save you money and at the same time your site will be on a faster host. All this without expensive re-registration fees or any loss of service. Shopping carts, cgi scripts, and database integration are also available. HTML, Javascript, ASP, PHP and C++ are just some of the scripts and languages we develop in. Development is from $60 per hour.

What is Open Source?
Open Source is free of charge and does not include expensive or limiting licensing fees.
Due to well-publicised security flaws and more importantly the cost, we do not recommend Internet systems built using Microsoft platforms.
We work in HTML (free), PHP scripts (free), C cgi's (free) on mySQL (free) databases running on the Apache (free) web server which in turns runs on the Linux (free) operating system. We don't like re-inventing the wheel and where possible create solutions cheaply by adopting, and if necessary modifying, existing Open Source solutions. Three of our favorites are the Mambo Content Management System, phpBB bulletin board system and the osCommerce ecommerce platform.

What is Mambo?
Mambo is an Open Source Content Management System (CMS). Web Sites powered by Mambo allow the Web Site owner to maintain the Web Site's contents without the need for specialized (or expensive) programming skills. Basically, if you can use a browser (like Internet Explorer or Firefox) and have the skills to operate a program like Microsoft Word, you can maintain a Web Site built on Mambo.

The software itself is free from the licensing expense that goes with most other highly functional, easy to use content management systems. No licensing fees, plus the ability to control and maintain the content of the Web Site yourself. Put another way, the ability to build and maintain a highly functional, flexible, modular Web Site is now within the grasp of anyone.
Firms like Macromedia and Microsoft, have in the past dominated the CMS market with offerings that start at US$ 14,000

While there are no restrictions or special requirements, we build Mambo to run on Apache with PHP and mySQL.

What is osCommerce?
osCommerce is an online shop e-commerce solution. Its feature packed out-of-the-box installation allows store owners to setup, run, and maintain their online stores with minimum effort and with absolutely no software costs or license fees.
In our opinion, osCommerce isn't simply the best Open Source ecommerce solution, it is hands down one of the best on any platform. More than 3,000 stores on the Internet today that are powered by osCommerce.

What is phpBB?
phpBB is a high powered and highly customizable Open Source bulletin board package. phpBB has a user-friendly interface and a simple and straightforward administration panel. phpBB is the ideal free community solution for all web sites. A good New Zealand example of phpBB is http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz
